SUMMARY

Great Lakes is seeking experienced Carpenters, including Foreman and Journeymen, to join their team for heavy highway/civil bridge projects in Northeast Ohio. Applicants should have prior experience with formwork for bridges and/or experience working on water and wastewater treatment facilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Read and interpret drawings/plans to understand the job
Plans and selects specific sizes/types of lumber and other pertinent materials for the job
Prepares layout
Braces formwork with timbers, tie rods, anchor bolts, and other fasteners for use in building concrete piers, footings, and walls.
Assembles overhang modules/jacks
Climbs wing walls and retaining walls
Assembles wood deck forms
Erects scaffolding and ladders
Accurately measures boards, timbers, plywood, and any other materials and marks with cutting lines
Assists in placing and finishing concrete
Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience
Must be a member of or willing to join the Carpenters Union (UBC)
Journeyman experienced in structural concrete on bridges and related fields
Requirements / Competencies
Skilled in the use of necessary hand tools and accuracy in using a level
Proficient written and verbal skills
Attention to detail
Proactive, self-motivating, problem solver
Ability to prioritize and remain flexible
Work well individually and on teams
Ability to demonstrate leadership traits, including the ability to make decisions with integrity
Valid driver’s license required
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is an hourly position, and the work week for employees is normally considered 40 hours Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required to support time-sensitive issues as they arise. However, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work conditions are primarily outdoors under all weather conditions. The administrative work is performed in a non-smoking office or field office environment.

The physical requirements must be met by an employee, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Employees must have the ability to:

Sit (or stand) for prolonged periods
Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
Occasionally bend, twist, squat, and kneel
Occasionally walk up and down the stairs
Demonstrate visual acuity with or without corrected vision
Demonstrate hearing acuity with or without corrected hearing
Must be able to walk outdoor construction sites with uneven terrain and obstacles
Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions
